Wrap those gifts in this top quality, hand made Lokta paper gift wrap, featuring 4 sheets of a snowflake design on pink, purple, green and maroon, designed and printed by artists working through Mahaguthi in Nepal.

Nepalese paper-making is tradition in the Himalayan ranges dating back over 2000 years. The Daphne bush (Lokta) used in its production is found at altitudes above 2,000 metres. It is harvested every 2-3 years by cutting the stem 30 cm above ground level, from where new shoots grow, so the trees survive.

Your purchase of this gift wrap helps provide continuity of employment for workers who are still struggling to rebuild their lives following the devastating Nepali earthquakes of May 2015. Sunil, CEO of our fair trade producer-partner Mahaguthi, wrote immediately after the earthquake:

"Fortunate enough that we are safe... some of us have lost our homes. The second earthquake on Tuesday shattered our confidence as we were trying to get back to life. Still thousands of people are displaced. People are fearful to enter their homes. Everyday aftershocks continue to terrify everyone. Still it is taking time to get back to life. Producers who went home outside Kathmandu are still fearful to return. Those who lost homes are busy finding temporary solutions... Thank you very much for your understanding and support."

Commendations

New Internationalist magazine is a fantastic, informative "tell it like it really is" read and gives me an insight into what is actually going on on this poor battered planet we temporarily inhabit.

Phill, Toowoomba - subscriber

New Internationalist is an ongoing education and a monthly reminder of our common humanity. A wonderful readable guide to the social and political forces that shape our world...With its hard-hitting coverage of world affairs, evocative first-person essays, sweeping exposes of such topics as land mines and the geopolitics of blue jeans, the New Internationalist offers a consistently unique and important perspective on global culture.

The editors of Utne Reader - when announcing the New Internationalist as the winner of the General Excellence Award for magazines with a circulation over 50,000 - global Independent Press Awards - 1998.

The magazine is a secular publication. Readers, both Christian and non-Christian, may not always agree with all its conclusions. But it is an excellent catalyst for better informed thought and action. It pulls no punches yet at the same time is written with sensitivity and compassion ... could be of immense help in our becoming more globally aware and responsible citizens.

Gil Cann, editor, Working Together (published by the Australian Evangelical Alliance)

For many years I have read the New Internationalist magazine with great respect. Many an article I have written, and film I have made, have had their roots in something I read in the NI.
