"This book trumps most of our accounts of the global warming crisis, partly for its good humor and straightforward logic, and partly because the author has actually figured out what actions make sense. Changing your lightbulb will help a little, but changing the political debate will help enormously--and this book will get you started down that path."

"Craven's schtick is ‘don't just trust me, think for yourself'. The truth, though, is that Craven really is an expert, just of a new breed that didn't exist before the internet. In the climate debate, I would rather trust Craven than industrial lobbyists or environmental groups, and I doubt I am alone.... I learned something from it - an achievement I might have thought impossible given my lengthy immersion in the climate debate.... If Craven could get everybody who has weighed in on this debate to go through the exercises in the book, Al Gore should share his Nobel peace prize."

"Greg Craven has written a brilliant and unique work on global warming. His innovative and intelligent approach to this controversial issue is superbly crafted. It is an important book that is a must read for those who care about our planet and future generations."

"That nice American high school science teacher who made the YouTube videos explaining the rationale for action on climate change has brought out what is probably the most accessible book in the genre so far, in the same informal style as his very watchable YouTube skits. Good climate primer for lazy readers."

What's the Worst That Could Happen?
A rational response to the climate change debate
The globe is warming! The globe is not warming!
Were the ones doing it! Its a natural cycle!
Its gonna be a catastrophe! Itll be harmless!
This is the biggest threat to humankind! This is the biggest hoax in history!
If you're like most people, you're sick of the global warming shouting match. It seems easier to just let the two sides have it out with each other and wait for the dust to clear. But what if we don't have time to figure out who is right?
In What's the Worst That Could Happen? science teacher Greg Craven arms us with thinking tools to decide what to do, without having to decide which side is right. This book doesn't focus on what to think about global warming, but how to think about it, so you can come up with your own conclusions without having to buy into what anybody says.
The truth is, no matter what we believe, we could be wrong. So which mistake would you rather risk: the possible harm to the economy that skeptics embrace or the possible upheaval that activists warn us about? Which is the more acceptable risk: the risk of taking action or not taking action? It's your call, and this book equips you to make it.
There are already books aplenty on both sides of the issue, shouting "Believe me!" "No, believe me!" But the average person doesnt know who to believe, because both arguments seem convincing. Of course were too small to affect the planet. Then again, of course there may be bad side effects of our world-scale energy technology.
This book is an attempt to provide the average, non-technical person a way to come to a decision themselves, based on their own values and experiences, about what (if anything) we should do about climate change, without having to decide which side to believe.
It is a simple decision-making system, rather than an argument for a point of view. As such it has the side benefit of providing a basic decision-making process that can be applied to any difficult decision--not just global warming, but anything from 'What career should I choose?' to 'What car mechanic should I use?" to 'Should I vaccinate my child?' to (insert your dilemma here). Disarmingly self-critical, humorous at times and exceedingly accessible, it makes a great teaching resource.
