The Solio Bolt comes with a micro-USB to USB cable for charging the Bolt via a USB port, which can also be used as a charging cord for Micro-USB devices. It includes a pencil insert to easily prop towards the sun.

Simple Fast Charging - the 1Amp USB output charges target devices at the same rate as a typical wall charger. A typical smartphone goes from zero to full in just under three hours. Since most devices these days charge by USB, it is more simple than ever to plug into the sun.

Sundial for energy capture - the ingenious design of the Solio Bolt allows a pencil to be inserted into the central boss to make the Bolt act like a sundial. Simply point the Bolt towards the sun and rotate it until the pencil no longer casts a shadow. Adjust the bolt each time the bolt casts a shadow. A full day in full-sun completely charges the Bolt on-board 2000 mAh lithium-poly battery.

Charge when the sun goes down - with no sun, the Bolt battery can be re-charged via the micro-USB port. From USB, the 2000 mAh battery charges in 4.5 hours. You can then take it with you as a portable battery back-up.

A multititude of devices - more and more devices these days are powered by USB. The Solio Bolt powers smartphones like the iPhone and Android devices, GPS units and bike computers, E-readers like the Kindle, and even LED powered headlamps.

Compact for travel - when the Bolt is not spun open to capture energy from the sun, it folds closed into a compact package that fits in the palm of the hand. At only 150 gms the Bolt tucks into a backpack or messenger bag and provides battery back up for USB powered electronics while on-the-go.

One button does it all - the Solio Bolt has a single LED push button. When the Bolt is capturing energy from the sun or from a USB wall charger, the button shows red. Push the button one time and the Bolt flashes 1 to 5 times to indicate battery level and begins energy output. Push the button one more time to turn off the power.

Optimised charging - while electronics are changing all the time, USB charging standards are agreed upon by the CTIA. The Solio Bolt is designed to deliver the CTIA standard charge output and when the LED blinks green, it is in the CTIA output mode. Apple has their own standard, and the Solio Bolt is designed to switch to Apple Mode for efficient charging of Apple iPhone and iPod products. Press and hold the LED button for five seconds and the LED shows blue to indicate that it is delivering the APPLE specified energy output.

Heat and chemistry - the Solio Bolt utilizes a high temperature rated lithium ion-polymer battery. Unlike other battery chemistries, lithium-poly works perfectly for the high-heat of solar charging and our 65C specification means the heat of the sun never interrupts efficient solar charging. When the useful life of the rechargeable battery is over, the Solio Bolt battery may be user-replaced with a few simple turns of a screwdriver.
