Peters World Atlas
The earth in true proportion
World maps and atlases used to be based on a projection created by the sixteenth-century cartographer Gerardus Mercator for use in navigation. However, these representations tended to reinforce a colonialist, Eurocentric view of the world.
In contrast, the Peters' World Atlas represents all countries and continents at the same scale, each double-page spread showing one sixtieth of the Earth's surface. All 246 thematic maps are also equal-area world maps.
The presentation of issues relating to man, nature, and society in these thematic maps help us to better understand tensions between North and South, East and West, and so to become true citizens of the world.
A must for all households interested in a different world view, and all schools.
