This limited edition Sea Shepherd KeepCup is the perfect vessel to enjoy any beverage, at home, work or on the run. Made from fully tempered, barista standard soda lime glass, sustainably sourced, recycled cork, and 100% recyclable polypropylene lid and plug, it's beautiful, functional and very eco-friendly.

The cork material - from the ancient cork oak forests of Portugal and manufactured from the recycled waste material from the wine industry - has unmatched environmental credentials. It's light, biodegradable, antibacterial and is an excellent insulator with superior thermal qualities. It's also very aesthetically pleasing and lovely to feel and hold, and will over time develop a patina that will tell the story of your use. Being a natural product, cork is delicate, so for a long life, do not remove the band from the cup and wash everything gently by hand.

Less plastic going to landfill

Using KeepCup also means less plastic going to landfill, or into the oceans. It's estimated that 500 billion coffee cups are produced globally each year and if they were placed end to end they'd circumnavigate the globe 1360 times! Planet Ark says that about 60,000 kilograms of plastic waste from coffee cups is directed to landfill each year in Australia alone, where it can take about 50 years to break down. A study from the University of Victoria in Canada created a 'break-even' matrix for the energy inputs in production of disposable paper cups compared with reusable plastic, glass and ceramic cups. It found that you'd need to use a glass reusable cup such as this only 15 times before it becomes equally energy efficient to a paper cup, and of course with proper care this KeepCup could last a lifetime.

Doing your bit to save the oceans

15% of all Sea Shepherd KeepCup sales are donated to Sea Shepherd Australia. Sea Shepherd vessels patrol the oceans on the front line of ocean conservation, using non-violent direct action and the power of the camera to prevent illegal activity in the world's oceans.

Your purchase of a Sea Shepherd KeepCup supports this mission to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world's oceans.

Jonathon Porritt - environmentalist

People these days almost crave information that helps them to make sense of the world, and the New Internationalist magazine does that brilliantly.

John Pilger - journalist and film-maker

UTNE Reader, in nominating the New Internationalist magazine for the 2010 Independent Press Awards.

For many years I have read the New Internationalist magazine with great respect. Many an article I have written, and film I have made, have had their roots in something I read in the NI.
