As a member of WFTO, every two years New Internationalist is required to send WFTO a Self-Assessment against the ten Standards for Fair Trade Organisations. This self assessment is judged by a WFTO committee, to assess whether we can continue to call ourselves a Fair Trade Organisation.A past sample NI Self Assessment is available for download here.
Every year, approximately 10% of Fair Trade Organisations are also subject to an audit by independent external and expert auditors. When New Internationalist is subject to one of these audits we will publish the results on this site also.
The WFTO is currently upgrading their membership and monitoring procedures. As details become available they will be posted here.
The New Internationalist magazine is the most brilliant advocate on behalf of the developing world. It's a source of information; it's a source of reassurance on ideas; and it has an enormous integrity.
I have subscribed to New Internationalist for over 25 years, and can vouch for its fearless, high quality reporting of the real issues all over the world. And lovely items in their shop, too!
I have enjoyed reading your magazine since I was 14 years old when I discovered it in my school library. I'm now 32 and the magazine still delivers.
Proud to help... read you cover to cover
New Internationalist supports Fair Trade producers like The Chetna Organic Cotton Project. Fair Trade promotes a fair wage and fair working conditions, encouraging developing world producers to help themselves.
A little about The Chetna Organic Cotton Project: Say NO to pesticides that poison three million people every year, and help make trade fairer at the same time.
New Internationalist Australia is a member of the World Fair Trade Organization, which means we have to stock a percentage of Fair Trade products, and also adhere to Fair Trade practices ourselves. Great for supporting producers rights, and also for our staff.
