African Pacific is an Australian based organization dedicated to working with Pacific Island communities to alleviate these problems. They are actively involved in designing and sourcing appropriate technology to allow small scale enterprises, from family units to community initiatives and medium sized plantations, to produce virgin coconut oil. Their Fair Trade marketing program brings this oil to the international market in the Nui range of skin care products, ensuring village producers a fair and stable income while reducing the heavy risks associated with production in remote areas.
Nui, born pure
Virgin coconut oil has for centuries been used by traditional healers to nurture the body and the mind. Inspired by this time-honoured history, the Nui range is born from the unpolluted tropical islands of the South Pacific.
Although an area of stunning beauty, the South Pacific has always been handicapped by the logistical difficulties imposed by its thousands of scattered islands. This, combined with historical characteristics of the international tropical oils industry, has inhibited indigenous coconut oil producing communities from participating independently in their domestic or regional economy. As a result, local communities throughout the Pacific have been unable to take advantage of their natural heritage, the coconut, and have remained trapped in the colonial legacy of the much maligned copra trade.
