Community Action and the Environment DVD
Excellent discussion starter on non-violent community campaigns and community organization. DVD

In 1996 residents living in Werribee, just outside Melbourne, learned that a toxic waste dump was being proposed for a nearby quarry site owned by CSR, an international manufacturer of building products. This program explores the action taken by the community in their conflict with the state government and the company.

A local community group called WRATD - Werribee Residents against Toxic Dumps - became the main driving force successfully opposing the toxic waste dump. From a small group meeting in people's houses to running its own campaign office, WRATD's experience shows what a community can achieve when it works together for a common goal.

The program is an excellent discussion-starter on topics ranging from:
- Non-violent civil disobedience
- Civil society and the relationship to democratic government
- Building blocks for a successful community consulation and campaign
