Salsa Celtica - El Camino
by the vibrant 11 piece world music fusion
band from Edinburgh, Scotland
On paper, this band
sounds worryingly like the musical equivalent
of a haggis and rum milkshake: Afro-Cuban percussion,
Latin grooves and horns, mostly-Spanish vocals,
plus bagpipes, whistles, fiddles and a repertoire
which weds the Caribbean and Celtic!
But Salsa Celtica sounds
wonderful, and that holds true long after their
novelty wears off. El Camino ('the road') is Salsa
Celtica's fourth and best album.
Its many highlights
include a Latinised treatment of one of the more
haunting traditional English songs, beautifully
sung by special guest Eliza Carthy.
"Salsa
Celtica have real emotional range - El Camino's
passion, energy and virtuosity suggest that
Salsa Celtica's form of fusion has far to go.
A road well worth following.' * * * * * [five
stars!] "
Songlines - March/April 2006
"An
album that fizzes with energy and vitality and
does honour to music styles that are often hermetic
to change."
Mondomix - Feb 2006
"A
stunning shotgun marriage of eclectic musical
styles. Virtuosos to a man."
