Map
A Different View of the World
What if you wanted to see a map representing
the number of people per country rather than
the land mass?
NOW YOU CAN in this superb
new resource – the
POPULATION MAP.
It’s a rich and easily
memorable compilation of information, presented
in striking graphics
and fascinating text.
DID
YOU KNOW?
* China + India =
almost 40% of the world’s
population (37% in fact).
* The US = less than one twentieth (4.5%).
* Indonesia has the fourth largest population in the world.
* Over half the people in the world live in Asia. |

This map will help you make sense of the patterns
of human life and provide a contrast with the
media’s interpretation of world events.
It also includes many suggestions for other
resources to help us better understand the world
we live in.
This new map is a provocative and unique view
of the world, representing people, not territory.
The size of each country is shown in proportion
to its population, not land mass. For example,
on a conventional land-area world map, Indonesia
is just a bunch of small islands, but the Population
Map shows its significance as the fourth biggest
nation on earth.
This novel view of the world was created by
an editorial team including cartographers, population
experts, graphic designers, as well as human
rights, human resources, and political activists.
The map is enhanced by a series of thumbnail
images at the bottom. The first image uses an
equal-area projection map (the Hobo-Dyer) to
enable the reader to compare the size of the
land mass with the number people who live there,
as shown on the main map image.
The Population Map also tracks
demographic trends over time. Additional thumbnails
include a series
of informative images illustrating population
density by continent throughout human history.
This series of "snapshot" images
shows where humans lived:
1. 100,000 years ago
2. at the time of the birth of Christ
3. at 1650 AD
4. at 1900 AD
5. population projections for the year 2150.
There is also a map of current population density,
another quite different view of the world.
A superb new teaching resource that is a must
for every home and classroom.
